Laura was raised in Provence, France, and at age 17 entered painting school ...
in Paris. With some coaxing from her mother, she decided to shift her talents from the canvas to the face. Specialising in makeup application, she attended the prestigious Carita Beauty Institute. She excelled in her classes and subsequently represented Carita as a makeup artist and makeup teacher, working closely with renowned makeup artist Thibault Vabre.
In 1985, Laura moved to New York to launch American Elle and also worked for magazines such as
Allure, Vanity Fair, Harper’s Bazaar, Glamour, W and InStyle. Her reputation spread quickly and she was sought after by some of the biggest names in fashion and beauty, developing relationships with the most influential photographers in the industry, such as Steven Meisel and Patrick Demarchelier.
During that time, Laura was also a sought after Celebrity Makeup Artist. She worked with talent such as Madonna, Mariah Carey, Celine Dion, Sarah Jessica Parker, Julia Roberts and Juliette Binoche, as she continued to contribute frequently to high profile fashion and beauty magazines.
As a working professional makeup artist, Laura saw the need for several products, particularly in face makeup, that were missing from the traditional cosmetics marketplace. Unable to find the formulas, colours, and textures she wanted, she began experimenting and mixing her own to fill the “need gaps” in makeup in order to create the flawless face.
In 1996, Laura Mercier Cosmetics was launched, grounded in Laura’s philosophy to create a naturally flawless complexion. The line is designed to benefit women of all ages and skin types. Through her artisan lens, she personally created the colours and products to satisfy the global needs of women today.
