Romantic blusher looks - your guide on how to choose & apply blusher

Blusher is back in a big way, and it’s giving instant romance. Whether you’re into a soft, barely-there flush or full-on heart-cheeks energy, the right blusher looks can lift your whole face and make your skin look instantly fresher. If your feed has been serving blush 24/7 lately, you’re not imagining it. #blush has nearly 600K posts and a whopping 10.3 billion views, #blushtrend is nearly at 90K posts with 2 billion views and #blushhack has over 100K posts and 3.1 billion views. We'll let those stats talk for themselves.

But before you start layering it on, let’s break it down. What is a blusher and what does it actually do? Think warmth, shape and that just-blushed glow that pulls a any look together with minimal effort. The best part? There’s a texture for every vibe. Powder blush gives that classic, buildable finish, cream blush melts into skin for a natural-looking flush and liquid blush delivers a juicy pop that stays put.

How to pick the best type of blusher / choose the right formula?

Choosing the right blusher formula depends on the finish you love and how you want it to wear throughout the day. I personally love cream blushers because they melt seamlessly into the skin and give a natural, healthy glow. They are perfect for achieving a fresh, skin like finish.

Liquid blushers are incredibly pigmented and give a stunning blended result, but they can feel intimidating. A little goes a very long way, so starting with a minimal amount is key.

Powder blushers are great for longevity. I love using them on top of cream blush to set everything in place and extend wear time while keeping a soft, satin finish.

How to apply blusher & where to apply blusher?

Blusher placement makes a big difference to the overall look of the face. One of my favourite tips is placing blusher higher on the cheeks the higher the placement, the more lifted the face appears.

I like applying blush slightly above the apples of the cheeks and blending upwards towards the temples. For a more dimensional look, I sometimes use two different shades: a slightly deeper shade around the temples and a lighter shade on the cheeks, blended seamlessly together.

What should I apply blusher with?

I mostly prefer using a brush to apply and blend blusher, especially cream formulas. My go to is an angled brush, such as the Sephora Pro Brush No. 93. The angled shape hugs the natural contours of the cheeks beautifully and makes blending effortless.

For liquid blushers, I apply a small amount directly to the skin and then blend using a brush for a smooth, flawless finish.

When in my routine should I apply blusher?

Blusher should be applied after complexion products like foundation and concealer

Cream or liquid blusher comes before powder, while powder blusher is applied after setting the face. I personally love applying powder blush on top of cream blush to lock everything in and ensure it lasts all day while still looking soft and radiant.

How do you choose the right shade for your skin tone and undertone?

Choosing the right shade is about enhancing your natural complexion. I love working with multiple shades to create dimension rather than relying on just one colour. Using a slightly deeper shade near the temples and a lighter, brighter shade on the cheeks helps the face look sculpted, fresh, and naturally flushed.
